About
ZIP CODES SHOULDN'T DETERMINE SUCCESS.
Our simple vision: Students, teachers, and families all share responsibility for the future. Let's work together, and win big.
The Young Adult Borough Center at Lehman High School is an evening program for students who need a different path to their diploma. It was founded in 2005, by Martin Smallhorne. The successful model was straight forward: Small classes. Real teachers. And, a schedule that fits real lives.
Over the years, we have focused on educating the whole student, with courses that truly prepare them for the world (not just their diploma): the Study of Black Excellence, Financial Literacy, Foundations in Barbering, Driver's Education (leading to a Permit), Digital Media Production, Introduction to Coding, Engineering/Drafting, Music Production and The History of Hip-Hop.
Today, we remain dedicated educators who believe every student can be a success story — and we prove that everyday, with great instruction, paid internships, college trips, and a family-like culture. These elements have made us the premier alternative education choice for students and families in the Bronx.
